Talk on Advaita Vedanta

Advaita is a literal translation of the Sanskrit “not divided” or “non-dual”. It is a wordless understanding of the ground of being but not a method to obtain such an understanding. Discover who you are and you may find peace.

Talk on Advaita Vedanta

There are many pointers towards the non-dual but these are only meant to return to the peace within the questioning mind down to the point where it can let go of concepts, particularly the idea that I am a separate “I”. The great sage Ramana Maharshi only recommended one “method” for transcending the “I” idea and that was to enquire “who am I?” till the question itself dissolves. He acknowledged that the mind was useful to bring the enquirer up to that point but not to take that final step.

The ”I” or the “me” or the “self” is only a conventional mechanism to enable the play of life as we know it to operate, but as the Buddha is reported to have said “Events happen, deeds are done but there is no individual doer thereof”. The self is just a construct and has no inherent reality.
